Discover the Venice Biennale 2022

Are you interested in arts? Or perhaps music? And what about cinema? Then the Venice Biennale may just be the place you’re looking for!

The Venice Biennale is the most important contemporary art exhibition in Italy as well as one of the most relevant international art festivals, showcasing figurative arts, cinema, theater, music, architecture and even dance. Hosted by the city of Venice, this year the festival will take place from April 23rd to November 27th. However, despite its name, only the Art Biennale and the Architecture Biennale are held every two years. All the other events occur yearly.

The Biennale has a very long story behind itself, and the first festival actually dates back to 1895! Although many troublesome years prevented the Biennale from taking place – such as those of WW1, WW2, and the Cold War – the festival still stands, and it has now become a hallmark of culture and arts worldwide. This year, the Most Serene Republic of Venice will welcome its 59th anniversary.

The best time to visit the Biennale

If you’re particularly interested in cinema, then late August and early September are definetly the months you should look out for. It’s time for the Venice Film Festival, and at Lido di Venezia you can find the most successful actors and movie directors.

However, if you’re keener on music, you should pay more attention to September and early October when the Festival for Contemporary Music takes place. Not only you’ll be able to see a number of great exhibitions, but you’ll also enjoy the city of Venice as a whole during one of the best seasons of the year: in fact, between the height of summer and Christmas, the climate is neither too hot nor too cold.
