Between water sports, flying experiences and hiking, the shores of Lake Como go far beyond the traditional tourist experiences but offer a true paradise for lovers of sports.

Despite its smaller size compared to its neighbors Lake Maggiore and Garda Lake, Lake Como still offers the ideal setting in which to practice sports and outdoor activities of various kinds. Lovers of air sports and flying, for example, can find in the hills surrounding the main destinations of the lake, as well as in the local peaks, perfect launching points to fly over the lake with a paraglider or a hang glider. Among the favorite destinations of expert sportsmen, there are the resorts of the upper Lake Como, near Valtellina. Among these, Gera Lario, with the nearby Monti di Montemezzo, also suitable for those who want to try for the first time the thrill of flying accompanied by a qualified instructor. Or, staying on the side closer to Lecco, you can opt for the heights of Valsassina, which offer several launch points from Monte Giumello – home, among other things, of paragliding competitions of international importance – or from nearby Monte Mezzo, Valcava and Monte Cornizzolo.

Those who prefer equally adrenaline-filled experiences, but of a different nature, can try their hand at seaplane flying, which allows you to combine the thrill of flight with a unique panoramic view. To go for sure, simply reach Como and plan a break at the Aero Club Como, one of the oldest schools of flight over water in Europe.

Even those who prefer water sports are spoilt for choice. Rowing, for example, is the ideal choice for those who want to combine a bit of movement with the discovery of the lake from an unusual perspective. Both in Bellagio, Como and Lecco there are many clubs and rowing schools where you can rent equipment, including Sup, and get ideas for routes, as well as several beaches where you can relax after the tour. It goes without saying that by rowing you can also reach some of the intimate beaches that dot both shores of the lake. Always close to Bellagio or towards Onno, on the eastern shore of the lake, you can also try a guided dive into the depths of the lake. Not far from the main destinations of the lake, including Como, Lecco and Cernobbio, it is also possible to experience the thrill of speed thanks to a session of water skiing. Moving instead towards the Alto Lario, north of Varenna, between Bellano, Dervio and Colico you can take advantage of the strong winds that blow north to enjoy the natural waves of the lake with kitesurfing, windsurfing, or sailing. Don’t worry if you can’t bring your own equipment with you, you can rent it on-site in the many local nautical clubs.
