Lake Como
Situated in the north of Italy and Lombardy, not far from the border with Switzerland, Lake Como is a "Y" shaped lake of glacial origin which touches simultaneously Valtellina and the provinces of Como and Lecco. Lake Como - also known as Lario - has been for centuries one of the most popular destinations for travelers from all over the world, especially thanks to its landscapes, suspended between the blue of the lake and the mountains, its medieval monuments and villas that recall the splendor of the Renaissance.
The shores of Lake Como, connected to each other by numerous boats, hydrofoils and piers, offer activities for all tastes. It is sufficient, for example, to travel the lake by boat to discover the places that have inspired literary masterpieces such as “The Betrothed” and numerous films, or be seduced by the historic dwellings that dot the shores of the lake, including Villa Erba, Villa d'Este and Villa Bernasconi in Cernobbio, Villa Serbelloni and Villa Melzi in Bellagio, or Villa Olmo, Villa Carlotta and Villa del Balbianello, with their beautiful gardens.
Or, walking along the ancient pilgrims' paths, you can live to the fullest the relationship with an almost untouched nature, among mountains with unusual shapes and breathtaking views. The Piani di Bobbio, as well as the Piani d'Erna, in the province of Lecco, and the Val d'Intelvi, in the area of Como, offer the perfect setting for the most adventurous and for sports lovers. Between walking, cycling, paragliding and winter sports, there is no shortage of outdoor activities.
A trip to Lake Como is also synonymous with itineraries to discover the local enogastronomical excellences, ranging from tasty dishes based on fish from the lake to cheeses, dairy products, cold cuts and precious varieties of honey, to be matched with white and red wines of the Consorzio IGT Terre Lariane, or with wines from Valtellina, including the sforzato.
