As early as 5000/6000 years ago in the Caucasus (Georgia), Orange Wines were produced in buried amphorae. This technique was also used in the past in Europe, but after the two world wars it was completely forgotten.
It was only at the start of the 1990s when a small group of experienced winemakers from Friuli revived it by experimenting with the ancient technique combined with modern scientific know-how,thus achieving excellent production levels.
Today there are wine-growers all over the world devoted to this outstanding product and winemaking method. We will taste 4 excellent macerated wines from the North to the South of Italy, with maceration on the skins as the only common feature, but with very different times and methods, distinguished by ageing in steel, amphorae, cement or wood.
We learn all about the origin, the production method, the organoleptic profile of the wines and of course get to know the different producers.
