Duomo Complex: Guided Visit of Baptistery & Opera Museum (optional Bell Tower)

The Duomo square offers a breathtaking view, especially at sunset, when the sun's rays 'light up' the polychrome marble of the buildings that form the religious complex of the city. In fact the chromatic homogeneity (green, white and red) beautifully harmonizes a stylistic variety. The stylistic differences can be explained by the construction work going on for about four centuries, from the middle of the 11th century, when the works at the Baptistery started, until the middle of the 15th century when the dome of the Duomo was completed by Filippo Brunelleschi; this, with its imposing size, dominates the whole square.

  • Guided tour of the Baptistery, and the Opera Museum
  • Climb to the top of Giotto’s Bell Tower
  • The original Gates of Paradise (the doors to the Baptistery)

Following a chronological order, the visit to the religious centre of Florence starts from the Baptistery. With our Certified Guide you will have the opportunity to admire, inside, the stunning Byzantine mosaics of the vault while, outside, the masterpiece by Lorenzo Ghiberti, the east door of the Baptistery, commonly called 'the Gate of Paradise'. The final destination of the tour will take us to the museum of "Opera del Duomo" where you will admire up close works of high value from the artistic heritage of the religious complex; to be noted, along with others, "La Pietà" by Michelangelo. Enjoy a visit with a licensed guide to the most important buildings in the heart of Florence’s historic center: Baptistery and the Opera del Duomo Museum.
