My wife and I only had 24 hours in Venice, and this was one of the best ways to spend it. We got the classic Venice gondola experience at a fraction of the cost (in-person it costs ~80 euros, we paid 32 euros per person through Trip Advisor).
Sara the tour guide (a Venetian native) did an incredible job - she was extremely kind and educated. She provided the the first half of the tour (a walking guided tour that gave a brief history of Venice and the historical significance of gondolas). Not only did she share a lot of information, but she did it fluently in 2 different languages (English and Spanish).
The gondola ride was a nice and leisurely, and just the right amount of time you'd want to spend in a boat (I think any longer than 30 minutes starts to be a bit too much). Awesome experience, highly recommend. read less

However, I was really worried if she could since she’s handicap & walks with a cane (she’s 74 yrs young) but two gentlemen from the company helped her get on. One kept the boat steady and held her and the other was on the boat holding her as she was getting on. They made sure she was steady and was able to sit comfortably. I cannot be appreciative enough because they literally made my mother’s dream come true!! Thank you so much!! The ride was smooth… he pointed out key points along the ride. But if you come as the 3rd person to sit on the gondola, you cannot sit next to your partner, friend etc. but you might sit face to face (depending on gondola type). But still you can take better videos and pictures of the tip of the gondola in that case. Only thing is not the whole gondola tour is 50 minutes, some of it is walk tour. If you are doing the afternoon visit, then you have to wait around near pier 1A until the boat can find somewhere to berth (which may or may not be here exactly!) The guide will then come out with the blue sign for 'Lagoon tours' so just be on the look out and ask around if in any doubt.
The first island was Murano where we were herded straight into a demonstration on glass blowing and the obligatory visit to the (expensive) gift shop. There wasn't time to walk about and discover the island unfortunately. After this we sailed to the tiny island of Torcello. Again just a quick visit really. By the time we walked to the church it was time to walk back to the boat again! Our third island visit was Burano and we wished we could have spent more time here on this colourful island.
Although good value for money, maybe it is too ambitious to squeeze in 3 islands into 4 hours duration and overall the trip felt rather rushed. Our guide was great and cleverly spoke in 4 different languages.. read less

Buying tickets here on line only gives you a booking confirmation.
You then have to go to a ticket office in Venice about ten minutes away from the palace to get the actual tickets (plus the free guide book)
So you might as well get them when you get there - cheaper.

The water was really high and they were doing everything in their power to get us out on a gondola. But the experience itself was not the best because of the high tide.
Also we were on a boat with another couple and I presumed we’d have a boat to ourselves. So that was a little awkward.
The water was so high that they couldn’t go into any of the canals so we were all clustered together with about 30 other gondolas in the grand canal. We went out did a small loop and came right back.
Again, not their fault. But in my opinion it should have either been cancelled or postponed due to the uncommon water conditions.
The guide who led us to the entrance was very nice but we also got led on about a mile walk to find a place that was low enough to get in the gondolas.
Al in all, I think they did the best they could with the circumstances and I would recommend the company to others! But do be aware you’ll be in the boat with strangers. read less

We booked the skip-the-line tickets from Venice Tours including a colorful guide.
Upon arrival, there was indeed a big queue but I think the additional fee we had to pay to skip the line was too high.
We had to wait in line for the booth to pick up our tickets. It stated on the website we would receive a brochure. The lady at the booth informed us we could either get a brochure or use an online app. Unfortunately, we didn't know we had this option so make sure you have phones for everyone including earphones (we didn't) plus a charger because the app drains your battery. Make sure you download the app immediately next to the booth in order to benefit from the wifi. The app itself offered quite interesting background information. In the palace there are signs but they only give limited information (different from the app).
We enjoyed visiting it on our own. read less

There is no physical guide. You download the commentary on to your cellphone and activate each audio when in the right place. The audios were not in a proper sequence so it took a while to know which to use. Once properly located they told a story the observer would be much the poorer for not knowing.
"Skip the queue" was an advantage because the queues were long.
As a bonus there was also a Venice panorama commentary which was useful while wondering this wonderful city.
The trip is appropriately priced for what you get. read less

We had some interesting commentaries about the gondoliers and other historic details through the walk. but no commentaries on the gondola. Sometimes we could not listen to him properly, as the radio cut off. The gondola ride was about 15-20 minutes and I think it could be a bit more, exploring a larger extension of the canals. read less

It is nice to float on the small canals of Venice and the skills of the gondoliers are impressive. The price you pay here (appr. 40 dollars) is lower than other gondola tour operators.
However, if you want to book this activity please consider that you are indeed only 5 in a gondola, but for the rest you are part of a touristic mass organisation. It is not a relaxing or intimate activity. The introduction takes place with appr. 50 people, devided in 2 groups of appr. 25 people. In order to know in which boat you have to take place, you are asked to put a sticker on your coat with a number. For the introduction each of the 2 groups contain people speaking different languages, so you always have to wait until the explanation is done in your language. read less

The guide, Esra, is excellent - professional, warm, very human, and enthusiastic. The background info he gave on Venice as you’re walking to their gondola stop was fascinating and helped place a lot. Once you’re n gondola you switch off and quietly enjoy the noises of the city.

Another couple waiting in line saved the day by sending me to the Viator website and within minutes of presenting my barcode we were in the boat. Smooth sailing from there. These gondoliers do no talking or singing and that was just right for us. We took photos and enjoyed a bit of serenity. The ride was a few minutes under 30 but all in all, a good one. Challenging to find the stand to redeem online vouchers for tickets, instructions appear clear however it is a busy place and the ‘stand’ was not obvious.
It’s also not clear who you are traveling with or the departure point.
I found the boat and depart point through luck or we would have missed the trip.
The itinerary for the tour is good and well worth the visit.
It would be beneficial however to have an itinerary to confirm how long the stay on each island is to allow time for refreshments/ lunch which would fit perfectly if we had been told before hand.
For added excitement thread passengers were left at the second island and had to catch up the tour by private water taxi.
The islands, are well worth the trip. Glass blowing demo on Murano interesting but as usual exit via the gift shop.
In sum good but could be improved with better communication and easier ticket collection. read less

Once we arrived we were asked to choose a mask and asked to choose colours, we got told the history of the Venetian masks which was very interesting.
Its nice to have a break and get away from the hustle of Venice in this small workshop, there are also some amazing masks you can purchase from the shop.
The shop was still open to the public which at times was a little irritating as we were trying to listen to the history and had to stop while customers came in, the workshop is small so can only really fit a few people inside so its a bit awkward when the public comes in and you are sitting there on a tour.
Overall this is a great place to visit and we were both really pleased with our masks, make sure to ask for glaze over the top for an extra 2 euros it makes all the difference! This is suitable for adults and children of all ages. read less

Sometimes the chef’s passion and expertise can be a little intimidating for guests as it may come off as a little pushy, but it’s necessary if students are to do cooking and if the dishes are to come out excellent. Firstly our guide was brilliant and friendly explained everything as we were going round. Then he just started sing just one cornetto song which made our ride even more special. He was excellent and wish we got his name to give him a shout out. To top it off as he was singing he just said excuse me my mama ringing. And it was his mum on phone which was another highlight of our ride. We got on boat at the rialto bridge which cost us 80 euros. The link in TripAdvisor worked flawlessly, the booking and the alert was perfect, and given that we didn’t know where to meet up, we used the chat feature within the app and had a prompt response. Although our ride was scheduled at 2:30 pm, we were able to have a quite bite of delicious pasta, even dessert, and walk briskly to catch our romantic ride. It was truly special. Go to the news stand in St Mark’s Square. There isn’t one it’s through the arch under the piazza at the far end and yes it’s between Fendi and Italian post office.
You can only redeem tickets on the day. So trying to be prepared doesn’t happen.
Arriving on the day, paperwork was available however redeeming the audio guide was a real faff. Hence my concern over those less tech able being able to benefit from this.
The guide is good but doesn’t follow the flow for the Palace trip.
The actual Doge Palace is very impressive and a most do Venice visit. read less

When we arrived, the groups and numbering system were organized and we boarded our gondola within five minutes. While walking, the tour guide's microphone didn't properly work and therefore I couldn't hear the entire commentary. I loved this quick tour because it allowed us to do more in our day. It was a nice time to unwind for 30 minutes and take lots of pictures on the canal! Our gondola operator was very skilled but didn't talk as much. Overall, totally worth it! read less

Although we had already done one guided walk (including a gondola ride) we decided to take up the offer of a rescheduled walk and we were glad we did. Both were excellent, however this walk took us into areas less visited and our guide was very informative. She took us to cat book shop and Museum of Fortuny, both places which sadly we didn’t have time to visit properly but would definitely do so next time. We would certainly recommend this walk as a great introduction to places to return to and to the history of Venice. read less

We met at the start, and a big group of people were there and they divided us into 10 groups of five, we walked a few blocks to the canal, waited to load the gondolas and off we went. The ride was about 15 minutes through some canals inside the city. It was nice. I probably would have done our gondola experience more spontaneously had I known instead of this big tour feeling experience buying tickets in advance - we didn’t need to. There are gondoliers all over the city available all day and evening. read less

He left some of the decision-making up to us, but I wish it had been just a bit more organized. Nonetheless, we learned an immense amount of facts and thoroughly enjoyed our tour.
The one negative was our "guide" (not our regular tour guide) who took us around the glass blowing facility. Although he, too, was very informative and friendly, we felt pressured to buy something (my wife bought a small set of earrings, but it didn't seem to please him, leading us to believe he got a commission on the larger items, but not the smaller ones). His response was disappointing.
Would I recommend this tour? Yes, but be prepared to say no, if you're just there for the tour. read less

But still you can take better videos and pictures of the tip of the gondola in that case. Only thing is not the whole gondola tour is 50 minutes, some of it is walk tour.
