Carolyn was very welcoming and very fun! We learnt how to make two different pasta dishes and a dessert as well as some appetisers. Everything was delicious and very easy to make. She makes sure to teach you a way that can be done at home, without special utensils or techniques. We will definitely make the dishes we learnt back at home! Doing it in her own kitchen makes you feel very welcome and comfortable and she will go the extra mile to give you all the tips she knows! I had bought my ticket in advance for San Marco and was able to really see and enjoy each mosaic, the Loggia, the altar, and the museum, and the amazing view from the bell tower. I took a round trip in the linea 1 vaporetto to see all of the Canale Grande and Lido late afternoon, certainly more economic than a tour and fascinating. Also to Torcello to see the medieval church with its amazing Byzantine inspired last judgement. The other days I visited a variety of the palazzi, Grimini, Ca’ d’oro, the Peggy Guggenheim (definitely over rated), the Byzantine icon Museum, the Correr, the exhibit on Carpaccio, the secreti tour of the Palazzo ducale, the Academia, plus a few churches…. read less

But if you come as the 3rd person to sit on the gondola, you cannot sit next to your partner, friend etc. but you might sit face to face (depending on gondola type). But still you can take better videos and pictures of the tip of the gondola in that case. Only thing is not the whole gondola tour is 50 minutes, some of it is walk tour. Gondola tour was about 20-30 minutes. But it was nice and peaceful. Dont be scared of the waves 🙂 The gondoliers know their business very well and dont drop you into the river 😀 read less

I wished and asked for the back seats, but wasn't possible. We had 2 lovely woman though in our Gondola.
We learned that no more than 5 are allowed in 1 Gondola and the route depends from where you literally getting on. As each company has its own restrict

Go to the news stand in St Mark’s Square. There isn’t one it’s through the arch under the piazza at the far end and yes it’s between Fendi and Italian post office.
You can only redeem tickets on the day. So trying to be prepared doesn’t happen.
Arriving on the day, paperwork was available however redeeming the audio guide was a real faff. Hence my concern over those less tech able being able to benefit from this.
The guide is good but doesn’t follow the flow for the Palace trip.
The actual Doge Palace is very impressive and a most do Venice visit. read less

The water was really high and they were doing everything in their power to get us out on a gondola. But the experience itself was not the best because of the high tide.
Also we were on a boat with another couple and I presumed we’d have a boat to ourselves. So that was a little awkward.
The water was so high that they couldn’t go into any of the canals so we were all clustered together with about 30 other gondolas in the grand canal. We went out did a small loop and came right back.
Again, not their fault. But in my opinion it should have either been cancelled or postponed due to the uncommon water conditions.
The guide who led us to the entrance was very nice but we also got led on about a mile walk to find a place that was low enough to get in the gondolas.
Al in all, I think they did the best they could with the circumstances and I would recommend the company to others! But do be aware you’ll be in the boat with strangers. read less

There is no physical guide. You download the commentary on to your cellphone and activate each audio when in the right place. The audios were not in a proper sequence so it took a while to know which to use. Once properly located they told a story the observer would be much the poorer for not knowing.
"Skip the queue" was an advantage because the queues were long.
As a bonus there was also a Venice panorama commentary which was useful while wondering this wonderful city.
The trip is appropriately priced for what you get. read less

He guides participants patiently and supportively through this by first providing a demonstration, then a dry run without heat and finally the melting and manipulation of the glass in the heat with Massimiliano aiding with the more complex part in twisting the hanging hook.

We met at the start, and a big group of people were there and they divided us into 10 groups of five, we walked a few blocks to the canal, waited to load the gondolas and off we went. The ride was about 15 minutes through some canals inside the city. It was nice. I probably would have done our gondola experience more spontaneously had I known instead of this big tour feeling experience buying tickets in advance - we didn’t need to. As the price I paid was well above the €100 for an evening slot which was offered on the day.
I was also asked as soon as I got in the gondola, if I wanted to pay €50 more to go under the Rialto bridge, which we declined, obviously, as that is extortionate on top of the already paid price.
However, due to the weather and forecast thunder, our gondola ride was cut short about 25mins long in total. Because of this I requested a partial refund, of which I then received a few days later. Which made me feel a lot better about the experience.
This basically meant in the end I still paid over the nose for the experience, but unlike most I did obtain useful information about the surroundings from the gondolier, and he did seem more capable than many others on the canal. For example, no queuing, crashing or sharp turns, and due to the quieter route the boat didn’t rock as much as we saw others do on the grand canal.
All in all, if you want a quiet romantic ride down the small intimate canals and the grand canal, then this is for you. But this ride does not include any major tourist destinations, and is 30mins not 30-45 as described. read less

However, if you want to book this activity please consider that you are indeed only 5 in a gondola, but for the rest you are part of a touristic mass organisation. It is not a relaxing or intimate activity. The introduction takes place with appr. 50 people, devided in 2 groups of appr. 25 people. In order to know in which boat you have to take place, you are asked to put a sticker on your coat with a number. For the introduction each of the 2 groups contain people speaking different languages, so you always have to wait until the explanation is done in your language. read less

Sara the tour guide (a Venetian native) did an incredible job - she was extremely kind and educated. She provided the the first half of the tour (a walking guided tour that gave a brief history of Venice and the historical significance of gondolas). Not only did she share a lot of information, but she did it fluently in 2 different languages (English and Spanish).
The gondola ride was a nice and leisurely, and just the right amount of time you'd want to spend in a boat (I think any longer than 30 minutes starts to be a bit too much). Awesome experience, highly recommend. read less

Even when I showed him my bank acct with the electronic deduction his biz made for my tix! Another couple waiting in line saved the day by sending me to the Viator website and within minutes of presenting my barcode we were in the boat. Smooth sailing from there. These gondoliers do no talking or singing and that was just right for us. We took photos and enjoyed a bit of serenity. The ride was a few minutes under 30 but all in all, a good one. Just get your barcode ready! read less

If you are doing the afternoon visit, then you have to wait around near pier 1A until the boat can find somewhere to berth (which may or may not be here exactly!) The guide will then come out with the blue sign for 'Lagoon tours' so just be on the look out and ask around if in any doubt.
The first island was Murano where we were herded straight into a demonstration on glass blowing and the obligatory visit to the (expensive) gift shop. There wasn't time to walk about and discover the island unfortunately. After this we sailed to the tiny island of Torcello. Again just a quick visit really. By the time we walked to the church it was time to walk back to the boat again! Our third island visit was Burano and we wished we could have spent more time here on this colourful island.
Although good value for money, maybe it is too ambitious to squeeze in 3 islands into 4 hours duration and overall the trip felt rather rushed. Our guide was great and cleverly spoke in 4 different languages.. read less

There are four of us -- two adults, and two tween/teen girls (ages 12 and 14). I wasn't sure how the girls would feel about basically a craft project, but they loved it. Even moreso, my partner who was skeptical walked away really thrilled with the experience and our final results. (As he just said, "Write in the review that the dad even loved this!")
This family-owned shop has amazing masks on display. We had a ton of blank mask options to choose from, and then our instructor offered suggestions on how to decide where to add our colors. After a couple of rounds of painting, all while learning more about Venice and mask-making, he added amazing accents to each mask.
Our masks look like works of art thanks to his finishing touches, and they are proudly on display at home now that we've returned.
This is an experience we would definitely recommend! read less

We had a short walking tour of the streets and then hopped onto a gondola. The lady that walked us around was excellent, we learnt quite a lot and the gondola ride was lovely. We couldn’t do the grand canal as the wind had picked up quite a bit. Lady was very apologetic but it was no bother at all. The quieter canals were much better.
Only downside was we sat apart because of the odd number of people onboard. This was definitely worth the price. read less

I read that it was difficult to find where the check in area is but I didn't find this at all. If you simply exit the St. Mark's square on the opposite side of the basilica there is a flag out that says gondola and representatives waiting to assign you a gondola. My only negative is that the commentary is only on the land. When you're on the boat there is no commentary so there was no one to point areas of interest. We booked the skip-the-line tickets from Venice Tours including a colorful guide.
Upon arrival, there was indeed a big queue but I think the additional fee we had to pay to skip the line was too high.
We had to wait in line for the booth to pick up our tickets. It stated on the website we would receive a brochure. The lady at the booth informed us we could either get a brochure or use an online app. Unfortunately, we didn't know we had this option so make sure you have phones for everyone including earphones (we didn't) plus a charger because the app drains your battery. Make sure you download the app immediately next to the booth in order to benefit from the wifi. The app itself offered quite interesting background information. In the palace there are signs but they only give limited information (different from the app).
We enjoyed visiting it on our own. read less
