Amalfi Coast
The blue of the sea, the green of the Mediterranean scrub, the yellow of the lemons, the purple of the bougainvillaea, the pastel-colored houses. These are the unmistakable colors of the Amalfi Coast, a stretch of coastline that extends for about 50 km in the southern side of the Sorrento Peninsula, in the Campania region. Suspended on the Tyrrhenian Sea, at the foot of Lattari mountains, among steep cliffs, coves, small beaches, vineyards clinging to the rocks, citrus plantations and fishing villages, it is one of the most enchanting places of Italy.
Inserted in a scenario of great cultural and natural value due to its topographical features and its historical evolution, the Costiera, as it is commonly called, was declared in 1997 a Unesco World Heritage Site. The area has thirteen municipalities: Amalfi, Atrani, Cetara, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Maiori, Minori, Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Scala, Tramonti, Vietri sul Mare. Thirteen precious pearls set in the rock, built overlooking the sea, each with its own special features, all to be discovered.
This little corner of paradise is able to satisfy the whims of every traveler. Shopping lovers and socialites will adore Positano and Ravello, with their charming hotels, prestigious villas and luxury souvenir stores, while those who prefer beach life will be enchanted by the many small beaches scattered along this stretch of coast, which also abounds in characteristic private coves, often accessible only by boat. But even trekking enthusiasts will find something for their teeth here. Perhaps not everyone knows, in fact, that along the spurs of rock behind the famous seaside villages of the Amalfi Coast, there is a series of walkways overlooking the sea that give those who walk an incredible immersion in the Mediterranean nature, in addition to what the writer Gore Vidal called "the most beautiful view in the world".
